Hugh Brenner, CRNP, Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Licensed and Board-Certified to diagnose and treat children, adolescents, and adults of all ages.

Hugh Brenner; “Working together as a team, we resolve issues that keep you stuck. Although I specialize in Alternative and Complementary psychiatric care, the  course your therapy takes will depend on what you want to achieve. I commonly use a combination of the following therapeutic tools:

Talk therapy: Including family therapy, cognitive therapy, and psychodynamic therapy.

Mind/Body therapies: These are techniques that work through the body to effect the mind, emotions, energy field and spirit. Depending on the situation I will sometimes use  Shiatsu (a form of acupressure), but the form I prefer is Psychiatric Orgone Therapy. This emphasizes emotional expression and the movement of energy. It involves some physical interaction such as releasing tight muscles, working with your breathing, your voice and vision. This is an especially deep and effective form of treatment.

Psychiatric medications:  Some clients suffer from inappropriate medications or drug interactions and improve when this is corrected. I prefer to prescribe nutritional and herbal remedies when I can, but there are times when traditional medications are called for. I prescribe only after a through history, review of options, laboratory testing, and review of potential side effects.

Play therapy:  This is indicated for younger children, in the form of playing games with a therapeutic focus thereby engaging emotions, mind and imagination. Children and adolescents are most effectively treated when a parent is also in therapy.”

For children and adolescents there will often be evaluations to be done by teachers, family and other caregivers. Once we have a good idea of what’s causing the problems we can look at the best options for your path.
